Meeting Minutes for January 5, 2015 

Opening Prayer:  S. Kate led the group in Opening Prayer reflecting on this weekend’s gospel. 

Call to Order: President, Teresa Murphy, called the January 2015 meeting of the Women’s Guild to order.  There were 16 members in attendance. 

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes for the November and December meetings are available on line.  Ann Kowalczyk will begin sending the minutes to the Women’s Guild email distribution.

Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer, Marie Celeste, reported that the beginning balance for December was $3,377.92 with an ending balance of $2,111.15.  A motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Pat Sweeney and seconded by Kathy Moon.

Membership Coordinator Report:  There was no report at this meeting.

Publicity Report:  Nicole Mestoik continues to put information in the Bulletin as appropriate.

Altar Committee:  There was no report at this meeting. 

Sick and Vigil:  Marilyn Murdock reported that she sent a Get Well card to Kathy Heins.  She will arrange for Mass Cards for the following members who have recently died:  Rosemary Brannock, Rita Luce, Rose Sullivan and Ruth Smith. 

Military:  There was no report at this meeting. 

Hospitality Committee:  Pat Sweeney reported that there have been no recent events for the Hospitality Committee.  S. Kate asked the Hospitality Committee to provide refreshments after the Ecumenical Service on January 25th at 3:30 p.m.  Cookies and punch are needed for about 40 people. 

Garden Club:  S. Kate mentioned that St. Michael’s will be getting a shed to house the benches from the circle, bird bath and other items during the winter months.  The Garden Club can use this shed for garden supplies.

 

Old Business:

Christmas Dinner:  Ann Kowalczyk reported that there were 49 people in attendance at the Christmas dinner held at Franklin Terrace on Monday, December 1, 2014. 

Communion Breakfast:  The annual Communion breakfast will held on March 8, 2015.  Joan Phillips will be working on getting a speaker and caterer for this event.

Membership:  As a follow-up to the discussion at prior meetings, Teresa Murphy will be reaching out to Ellen Hotz to discuss the possibility of having a parish-wide presentation addressing the problem of heroin.  Teresa is also talking to Michelle McBain regarding a discussion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education for girls. 

 

New Business:

Bake Sale:  Debbie Toce and Joan Phillips will chair the Bake Sale to be held the weekend of February 7th and 8th.  A sign-up sheet was routed for women to volunteer to bake and help sell the baked goods. 

Chicken BBQ:  Ann Kowalczyk discussed plans for a Chicken BBQ this year.  Maureen Fogarty and Ann have been contemplating having the BBQ in July and having the caterer provide the complete meal.  After discussion, the consensus of the group was that a date in early September would be preferred.  This will be discussed further at the February meeting. 

50/50:  $50.00 was collected in the 50/50 raffle.  Doug Amsden is the winner of $25.00.

Springs Nursing Home:  $12.00 was collected for the Springs Nursing Home.

Refreshments for the February Meeting:  The Women’s Guild will have our annual Pizza Party at the February meeting.  Marie Celeste will pick up the pizza.  Sharon Close will bring dessert.  .

Next Meeting:  The next meeting of the Women’s Guild will be held on Monday, February 2th at 6:30 p.m. in the Church Hall.

Adjournment:  Marilyn Murdock made a motion to adjourn.  It was seconded by Fran Roscello.
