Meeting Minutes for March 2, 201 

 

Opening Prayer:  S. Kate led the group in Opening Prayer reflecting on this weekend’s gospel. 

Call to Order: President, Teresa Murphy, called the March 2015 meeting of the Women’s Guild to order.  There were 23 members in attendance.  Teresa invited all women present to help themselves to the pizza and snacks provided.

Secretary’s Report:  The minutes for the January meeting are available on line.  The February meeting was cancelled due to weather.

Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer, Marie Celeste, reported that the beginning balance for January was $2,111.15 with an ending balance of $2,071.15.  The beginning balance for February 2015 was $2,071.15 with an ending balance of $2,384.35.  A motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Nicole Mestoik and seconded by Maureen Fogarty.

Membership Coordinator Report:  Carol Rosney reported that the Guild has 128 paid members.  We welcomed new member, Josephine Gasparro, to the meeting. 

Publicity Report:  Nicole Mestoik continues to put information in the Bulletin as appropriate.

Altar Committee:  Jeannie Aurelia reported that the Altar Committee will be providing flowers for Easter.  Jeannie thanked Mary Bowers, Rosemary Burns, Mary Rose Ryan, Chris Urban and Marilyn Murdock for their help in cleaning the cabinets in the sacristy.  S. Kate requested that the extra vases be removed from the closet near the Statue of Mary. 

Sick and Vigil:  Marilyn Murdock reported that she sent Get Well cards to Anne Shields and Ann Morgan.

Military:  There were four packages from the Christmas Military collection returned to church.  Barbara Berger has arranged for the contents be sent to college students from our parish.  It was decided that the next collection for Military personnel will be sent around July 4th.  . 

Hospitality Committee:  Margaret Willard reported that the Hospitality Committee had a busy weekend.  Dinner was provided for approximately 75 people after the Lenten retreat led by Bishop Howard Hubbard.  Margaret thanked Debbie Toce, Kathy Heins, Jeannie Aurelia, S. Kate, S. Rita, Pat Sweeney and Bob Sweeney for their help.  The leftovers from the dinner were provided to Joseph House.  Margaret asked for volunteers to help serve at the Welcome Dinner on Tuesday, 4/21 at 6 p.m.  

Old Business:

Bake Sale:  Debbie Toce and Joan Phillips chaired the Bake Sale on the weekend of February 7th and 8th.  $423.00 was the profit from the Bake Sale.

Communion Breakfast:  Joan Phillips reported that the annual Communion breakfast will be held on March 8, 2015.  Selena’s Café will cater the event and provide quiche, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fruit, danish, coffee and juice.  Mark Quandt, Executive Director of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY will be the speaker.   

Chicken BBQ:  Maureen Fogarty discussed plans for a Chicken BBQ to be held on 9/25/15 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Giffy’s will provide the chicken and baked potatoes.  Similar to past years, the Guild will provide the cole slaw, rolls and brownies.  The dinners will be $10.00.  Maureen, Valerie Kurick, Veronica Borden and Ann Kowalczyk will co-chair this event. 

New Business:

Irish Night:  Pat Sweeney made a motion to make a $500.00 donation for the Irish Night.  The motion was seconded by Maureen Fogarty and approved. 

Easter Egg Hunt:  Sharon Close and JoAnn O’Connell are organizing the Easter Egg Hunt to be held on Palm Sunday.  Ted Close will be asking the Men’s Club to donate towards the event and help with set-up and judging the coloring contest.  Margaret and Barry Willard will donate Calvin the Rabbit to award to the winner of the guess the number of jelly beans contest.

Nominating Committee:  Nicole Mestoik will head the Nominating Committee.  Candidates to run for President, Vice-President and Treasurer are needed.

June Dinner Meeting:  The June Dinner meeting will be held at the Franklin Terrace.  Margaret Willard and Barbara Campbell will co-chair this event. 

50/50:  For February, $50.00 was collected in the 50/50 raffle; Bill Tolen was the winner of $25.00.  For March, Joan DeDeo and her granddaughter, Julie were the winners of $34.50.

Springs Nursing Home:  $21.35 was collected for the Springs Nursing Home.

Refreshments for the April Meeting:  Teresa Murphy and Chris Urban will provide refreshments for meeting on April 6th

Next Meeting:  The next meeting of the Women’s Guild will be held on Monday, April 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Hall.
