Meeting Minutes for September 14, 2015

Opening Prayer:  Deacon Bob led the group in opening prayer reflecting on this weekend’s gospel.

Call to Order:  President, Margaret Willard, called the September 2015 meeting of the Women’s Guild to order.  There were 36 members present.  Margaret invited the women to help themselves to the make your own sundaes provided by the Guild. 

Secretary’s Report:  There were no suggested changes to the minutes of the May or June meetings.  A recommendation was made to provide a small number of paper copies of the Women’s Guild minutes on the shelf outside the hall before the next month’s meeting.    Ann Kowalczyk thanked Michelle Frainier for the beautiful china coffee pot, tea pot, creamer and sugar she purchased for the Guild.  This will be put to good use at May’s Marian tea. 

Treasurer’s Report:  Joan Phillips reported that the opening balance for August was $1,512.67 and the closing balance was $1,566.67.

Membership Coordinator Report:  Carol Rosney reported that the Guild has 107 paid members for the 2015-2016 year. 

Publicity Report:  Nicole Mestoik reported that she is placing information in the bulletin as appropriate. 

2015-2016 Calendar:  Margaret Willard reviewed the calendar for the upcoming year.  The following dates were decided upon and placed on the Church calendar.  The member who volunteered to chair each event is listed:

Ministry Fair:  Barbara Berger is organizing a Ministry Fair entitled Harvesting the Fruits of the Holy Spirit at St. Michaels on Sunday, 10/4/15 after the 10:00 am Mass. The Women’s Guild will have a table at the fair.  Teresa Murphy and Fran Roscello volunteered to make the tri-fold board to include some pictures or history of the Guild.  Margaret Willard will look into renting a pop-corn machine. 

Special Birthday:  S. Kate will be celebrating her 70th birthday this week.  Margaret Willard made a recommendation to give a gift of $35 from the Guild to be combined with a donation from the Men’s Club to provide a gift certificate to D’Raymonds.  This was unanimously approved by the members present. 

Fund Raising Ideas:  Margaret Willard suggested that the Guild consider selling St. Michael’s Travel Mugs as a fund raiser.  The members thought this was a good idea and the mugs should be available for Christmas gifts.    

Military:  Margaret Willard asked the Guild to consider the best way to meet the needs of veterans returning to the United States.  The Veterans Miracle Center needs clothes, household items and money for returning veterans.  Bonnie Wood is familiar with Christopher’s House and will report back on an effective way to provide support.  Rosemary Burns, Mary Rose Ryan, Marilyn Murdock and Mary Bowers will consider collecting items and mailing packages to military personnel in the November timeframe for Christmas delivery.    

Audit:  Ann Kowalczyk reported that she and Maureen Fogarty audited the Guild’s books for 2014-2015.  The books are in excellent shape.  Recommendations were made to distribute Report of Events forms to all event chairs, make all Guild payments by check to provide a record and seek reimbursement from the Men’s Club for events run jointly. Marie Celeste and the members of the Guild were commended for the quality of the financial records.  

Bus Trip: Anne Shields will compile information regarding a potential bus trip to NYC or Boston.  More information will be available at next month’s meeting.

Chicken BBQ: Maureen Fogarty reported that the Chicken BBQ will be held on Friday, September 25th.  Maureen passed around sign-up sheets for volunteers to help make cole slaw, bake brownies and package meals. 

50/50 Winner:  $90.00 was collected in the 50/50 raffle.  Phil DeVoe was the winner of $45.00.

Springs Nursing Home:  $40.00 was collected for the Springs Nursing Home.

Panera Gift Card:  Kathy Moon was the winner of the Panera Gift Card awarded to a member who attended the September meeting.
