Meeting Minutes for October 5, 2015

 

Opening Prayer:  Sister Kate led the group in opening prayer reflecting on this weekend’s gospel.

Call to Order:  President, Margaret Willard, called the October 2015 meeting of the Women’s Guild to order.  There were 29 members present.  Margaret invited the women to enjoy the refreshments.    

Secretary’s Report:  There were no suggested changes to the minutes of the September meeting.  A recommendation was made to have the Secretary retain copies of the Women’s Guild related flyers that are included in the Church’s bulletin.  This will be done going forward.    

Treasurer’s Report:  Joan Phillips reported that the opening balance for September 2015 was $1,566.67 and the closing balance was $3,000.56

Publicity Report:  Nicole Mestoik reported that she is placing information in the bulletin as appropriate.  The correct name of the 50/50 winner for September is Phil DeVoe.  

Altar Committee:  Barbara Campbell reported that the Altar Committee will hold their annual meeting on October 8, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. 

Sick and Vigil:  Members suggested that get well cards be sent to Sister Marjorie and Rose Volks. 

Military:  Rosemary Burns reported that collections will begin this week for the packages to military personnel. Parishioners will provide the contents for the packages and the Guild will pay for postage. 

Garden Club:  Teresa Murphy reported that mums had been planted around the circle.  A garden clean-up will be held on October 18, 2015 with October 25, 2015 reserved as a rain date. 

Hospitality:  S. Kate reported that the Year of Mercy will begin on Dec. 8, 2015.  Multiple events will follow that will require support from the Hospitality committee.  S. Kate thanked Chris Urban for her coordination of the hospitality for the St. Michael’s Mass.

October Bake Sale:  Joan Phillips reported that the Fall Bake Sale will be held the weekend of October 31, 2015 and November 1, 2015.  She passed around sign-up sheets for volunteers to help bake.  Joan requested pies as well as cookies and brownies for the bake sale. 

Election Day Soup Supper: Anne Shields is coordinating the Election Day Soup event to be held on November 3, 2015.  She has volunteers who will make a variety of different soups.  Margaret Willard will provide the rolls and has the containers for the soup.   A flyer will be prepared for the bulletin 

Christmas Dinner:  Caroline Martin reported that the December Dinner meeting will be held on December 7, 2015 at the Franklin Terrace.  The meal choice will consist of Roast Beef, Stuffed Chicken and Salmon.  Details will follow at the November meeting. 

Bus Trip:  Anne Shields is researching a bus trip to Boston for the spring.  Details to follow. 

Ministry Fair:  Margaret Willard reported that the Ministry Fair was very successful.  She showed the group the poster used for the event which included an illustration of a tree with 28 apples, each representing an activity, committee or event sponsored by the Women’s Guild. 

Travel Mugs:  Margaret Willard researched aluminum travel mugs to be available for Christmas gifts.  Margaret suggested having angel wings on the mug.  Fran Roscello proposed using a sketch of St. Michael’s on the mug.  Bonnie Wood made a motion to bring the mug design to a vote, which was seconded by Marilyn Murdock.  The members voted 15 to 8 for the Church design.  The recommendation was to use red, one of St. Michael’s colors.      

Troopons:  Margaret Willard raised the Troopons – Coupons for Troops program. The program collects manufacturer coupons to assist military families.  The Guild will consider beginning this project after the New Year.  Sister Rita will check into ability to use expired coupons.   

T-shirts:  Teresa Murphy can order a Women’s Guild polo shirt for any Guild member interested in purchasing one.

Raffle:  Anne Shields proposed running a raffle to make money for the Guild.   Margaret Willard noted that the Guild could consider this if we had a specific project for the funds. 

Chicken BBQ: Ann Kowalczyk reported that the Chicken BBQ was a huge success.  385 chicken dinners were sold and the Women’s Guild made a profit of $1,546.25.  The co-chairs of the event, Veronica Borden, Valerie Kurick, Maureen Fogarty and Ann Kowalczyk thanked all the women for their help and support in selling tickets, making coleslaw, bringing brownies and working on the actual dinner.  Veronica Borden especially thanked the women who worked in the kitchen for the great job done. 

50/50 Winner:  $83.00 was collected in the 50/50 raffle.    Michelle Frainier was the winner of $42.50.

Springs Nursing Home:  $21.00 was collected for the Springs Nursing Home.

Bruegger Gift Card:  Nicole Mestoik was the winner of the Bruegger Gift Card awarded to a member who attended the October meeting. 

Closing Prayer:  Margaret Willard closed the meeting with the Leader’s Prayer.
