Meeting Minutes for February 1, 2016

 

Opening Prayer:  Deacon Bob Sweeney led the group in opening prayer reflecting on St. Ansgar of Sweden.   

Call to Order:  President, Margaret Willard, called the February Meeting of the Women’s Guild to order.  She invited all present to partake of the snacks provided by Carol Rosney, Kathy Moon and Sharon Close.   There were 21 members present. 

Secretary’s Report:  A motion to accept the January minutes was made by Pat Sweeney and seconded by Sister Rita.    

Treasurer’s Report:  Joan Phillips reported that the opening balance for January was $3,572.41 and the closing balance was $2,867.88.  A motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Debbie Toce and seconded by Marie Celeste. 

Membership Coordinator Report:  Carol Rosney reported that the Guild has 121 paid members as of 2/1/16.

Publicity Report:  Nicole Mestoik reported that she is entering items into the bulletin as appropriate.    

Military:  Rosemary Burns reported that the military collections will begin soon.  Boxes will be sent to deployed personnel as well as to the local VA hospital. 

Altar Committee:  Barbara Campbell reported in Jeannie Aurelia’s absence that the Christmas flowers are being removed from the Church. 

Sick and Vigil:  Marilyn Murdock mailed get well cards to Anne Shields, Marilyn Wiegert and Lou Anne Gramolini.   Sister Rita informed that group that Sister Kate’s eye surgery was successful.  Marilyn will send a card to Sister Kate. 

Garden Club:  There was nothing to report.

Hospitality:  Margaret Willard reported that help is needed on 2/14/16 for the reception after Sister Kitty’s presentation.  Volunteers were solicited to help make desserts and set-up the Church Hall after the 10:00 am Mass.

Works of Mercy: 

The Springs Nursing Home is in need of Missals, a talking Bible and a folding platform to be used for the Altar during Mass.  The gift basket will be raffled off at the Men’s Club’s Valentine’s Dinner and the proceeds used to purchase these items for the Springs.  The suggestion was made to meet with the new Activity Director at the Springs and see what they may need for the residents. 

Kathy Moon provided an update on volunteering at the Regional Food Bank.  After discussing available times, the group decided to volunteer on Wednesday, March 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Kathy will verify the logistics with the Food Bank. 

Easter Egg Hunt:  Sharon Close and JoAnn O’Connell will co-chair this event and will provide information at the March meeting. 

Boston Bus Trip:  Marie Celeste reported that the bus trip to Boston will be on Saturday, 4/23/16.  She will begin collecting money for the trip in March. 

February Bake Sale:  Joan Phillips asked for help with baking and selling baked goods at the Bake Sale this weekend, 2/6 and 2/7/16. 

Donations:  Margaret Willard discussed the Irish Night that will be held on 3/11/16.  Margaret made a motion to donate $500.00 from the Women’s Guild to the Irish Night.  Sister Rita seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.  Margaret informed that group that the Church recently needed to purchase a new freezer.  Maureen Fogarty, in absentia, made a motion to donate money to defray the cost of the freezer.  Marilyn Murdock made a motion to donate $300.00 and it was seconded by Caroline Martin.  This motion also was agreed on unanimously. 

Chicken Barbeque:  Ann Kowalczyk reported that the Chicken BBQ will be held on Thursday, 9/22/16.  Caroline Martin suggested we consider providing applesauce in lieu of the cole slaw.  The co-chairs will research the feasibility of this suggestion. 

Bowling Night:  Margaret Willard reminded the group that the Men’s Club is sponsoring a Family Fun Night of bowling, food and fun on Sunday, 2/21/16.  She encouraged people to sign up. 

Communion Breakfast:  The annual Communion breakfast will be held on 4/3/16 after the 10:00 Mass.  A speaker from the US Committee of Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) in Albany will be addressing the group speaking on helping the vulnerable to rebuild their lives. 

50/50 Winner:  Mary Bowers was the winner of $31.00

Springs Nursing Home:  $23.00 was collected for the Springs Nursing Home.

Refreshments for March Meeting:  Josephine Gasparro, JoAnn O’Connell and Ann Kowalczyk will provide refreshments.

Adjournment:  Marilyn Murdock made the motion to adjourn and it was seconded by Rosemary Burns.
