Clothe the Naked

Saint Michael the Archangel Parish Family

Social Justice Ministry

During this Year of Mercy, we are focusing on practicing the Corporal Works of Mercy.  For March of 2016, let us reflect on

To Clothe the Naked

Luke 3: 11   “If you have two coats, you should share one with the poor.”

What if your son or daughter didn’t have a coat to keep them warm this winter?  What would you do to make sure he/she got one?  Well, your brothers and sisters in Christ are out there right now shivering in the cold.  What can you do to help?

What we have done at St. Michael’s to respond to this work of mercy…coats for kids…Sock It To Me Sunday…shoe collections…Undy Sunday…Crafty Ladies knitting and crocheting hats, mittens, scarfs etc. for the needy…

What can YOU do to extend this work of mercy…make a donation of still good and usable clothes or money to an agency that provides clothing…volunteer in our Social Justice Ministry to help organize one of the clothing collections…educate yourself about Sweatshops and write your congressman about shutting them down…make a commitment to keep track of how much you spend on yourself for clothing and then give at least half of that same amount of money to a shelter that provides winter clothing to the needy…

In the Corporal Works of Mercy, Jesus calls us to DO something-not simply to talk about it, not to study it, not to establish a committee to develop a plan for it, but to DO it…to really and truly clothe the naked.  Why?  Because, Jesus says, when we clothe the naked, we are clothing Him.  In other words, we just may see the eyes of Jesus Himself in the face of the person we clothe.  Not only will a person find warmth and dignity in clothing, but we ourselves will also be transformed by the grace of God in the process.  Clothe the naked!  Generous followers of Jesus do just that!  From Beautiful Mercy
