Meeting Minutes for March 7, 2016

Opening Prayer:  Sister Kate led the group in opening prayer reflecting on this weekend’s gospel of Jesus’ raising Lazarus from the dead.     

Call to Order:  President, Margaret Willard, called the March Meeting of St. Michael’s Women’s Guild to order.  There were 31 members present. 

Secretary’s Report:  A motion to accept the February minutes was made by Anne Shields and seconded by Marilyn Murdock.    

Treasurer’s Report:  Joan Phillips reported that the opening balance for February was $2,867.88 and the closing balance was $2,633.88.  A motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Jeannie Aurelia and seconded by Kathy Moon. 

Membership Coordinator Report:  Carol Rosney reported that the Guild has 121 paid members as of 3/7/16.

Publicity Report:  Nicole Mestoik reported that she is entering items into the bulletin as appropriate.    

Sick and Vigil:  Marilyn Murdock mailed a get well card to Sister Kate. 

Military:  Marilyn Murdock reported that bins are in place to collect items for the military packages.  Girl Scout cookies will be sold at St. Michael’s on the weekend of 4/2-4/3/16.  The military packages will be delivered to the Albany VA Hospital after 4/3/16 to allow any donated cookies to be included. 

Garden Club:  There was nothing to report.

Hospitality:  Margaret Willard requested help with set-up and clean-up of the refreshments to be served before Sister Kitty’s presentation.  This Lenten presentation will be held on Sunday, 3/13/16, after the 10:00 Mass. 

Works of Mercy:  Margaret Willard will reach out to the Activities Director of the Springs Nursing Home to see how the Guild can help meet some of the needs that exist at the facility.  Our plan is to use the money collected at our meetings etc. to work towards filling those needs.   

Chicken Barbeque:  Maureen Fogarty reported that planning is continuing for the annual Chicken BBQ to be held on 9/22/16.  As a follow-up to last month’s suggestion, Maureen reported that the price for applesauce and coleslaw is comparable.  She asked the members for their preference and it was overwhelmingly to continue serving coleslaw. 

Macaroni and Cheese/ Chili Cook-Off: Sharon Close reported that there was a nice turn-out for this year’s event.  The food was delicious and the desserts were awesome. 

Easter Egg Hunt:  Sharon Close reported that the Easter Egg hunt will take place on Palm Sunday after the 10:00 a.m. Mass.  She will send a letter to the Men’s Club to solicit their support for the event.  Sister Kate and one member of the Men’s Club will judge the coloring contest.  Margaret Willard will donate Calvin the Bunny and the jelly beans for the Guess the Jelly Bean contest.   

Communion Breakfast:  The annual Communion breakfast will be held on 4/3/16 after the 10:00 Mass.    Sister Rita Shawn csj and Sister Maria Cokely csj, founders of Joseph’s House and Bethany Hospitality Center, will be the guest speakers. 

Marian Tea:  The Marian Tea will be held on 5/14/16.  More information will follow at the April and May meetings.   

Food Bank:  Kathy Moon provided an update on volunteering at the Regional Food Bank.  We will meet at the Food Bank in Latham at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 3/30/16.

Boston Bus Trip:  Anne Shields reported that the Boston bus trip will be held on Saturday, 4/23/16.  As of 3/7/16, there were only 23 people signed up for the trip.  Nicole Mestoik will advertise for the trip. 

Blood Drive:  Ginny Amsden reported that there will be a Red Cross Blood Drive at St. Michael’s on Wednesday, 4/27/16, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.   She asked the members to consider donating, if possible. 

50/50 Winner:  Jim Constanza was the winner of $43.00

Valentine’s Day Basket:  Carolee Jasiewicz was the winner of the Valentine’s Day Chocolate Basket. 

Gift Card:  Bea LaClair was the winner of this month’s gift card. 

Springs Nursing Home:  $33.00 was collected for the Springs Nursing Home.

Refreshments for the April Meeting:  Josephine Gasparro and Bea LaClair volunteered to provide refreshments for the April meeting.

Adjournment:  Marilyn Murdock made the motion to adjourn and it was seconded by Caroline Martin.
