Meeting Minutes for April 18, 2016

Opening Prayer:  Sister Kate led the group in opening prayer reflecting on this weekend’s gospel of John. Jesus is telling us that we have everything we need to know. To listen to the gospel and to love one another as Jesus loves. That loving like Jesus is giving totally of oneself to others,

A member of the Men’s Club, Jim Nash, asked to speak to both groups after the opening prayer. He talked about a senior bowling group and asked if Marvin Sontez could come and speak to both groups for a half hour or so to see if anyone would be interested in joining a senior league. Sister Kate then asked if there were another announcement from either group.

Call to Order: Vice-President Barbara Campbell stood in for President Margaret Willard in her absence. There were 22 members present.

Secretary’s Report: The guild received two thank you notes one from Margaret Willard and her family for all the loving support in the passing of her mother Elizabeth A. O’Connell and for the lovely dish garden. The second note was from Sr. Rita McLaskey, csj and Sr. Maria Cokely, csj in appreciation for the very generous gift card given to them as speakers for the St. Michael’s Women’s Guild and Men’s Club Communion Breakfast. A motion was made by Caroline Martin and seconded by Jane Conair.

Treasurer’s Report:  Joan Phillips reported that the opening balance of $2,633.88 and the closing balance was $2,676.88. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Marilyn Murdock and Rosemary Burns.

Membership Coordinator Report: Carol Rosney reported that the Guild has 121 paid members and that May 14 & 15, 2016 is a membership drive weekend.

Publicity Report: Nicole Mestoik was absence (no report).

Altar Society:  Jeannie thanked everyone for there help during the Easter Season. However, there was concern expressed by Barbara Campbell in regard to how fast and how many Easter Flowers died one week after Easter. Jeannie also expressed that anyone one from the Guild if they are at mass during the week could check the flowers to see if they need watering.

Sick and Vigil:  Marilyn Murdock mailed get well cards to Ann Duffy, Katherine Nash and Sr. Marjorie.

Military:  Rosemary Burns sent boxes to the VA Hospital in Albany and she received a thank you note with a medallion. Giving coins is a tradition from military for a kind deed. She also received a thank you note from Kelly Buttaci for the 30 bags sent to Albany Medical Center.

Garden Club:  Teresa Murphy asked for assistance with some spring clean-up for Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10am. When it gets warmer she will plant some annuals.

Hospitality:  Debbie Toce reported no updates at this time.

Works of Mercy:  No Report Margaret absent

Chicken Barbeque: No Report Ann and Maureen absent.

Easter Egg Hunt:  No Report Sharon and Joann absent.

Communion Breakfast:  Barbara Campbell submitted the report to the Guild. The breakfast was held on April 3, 2016 and there were 51 paid attendees. Selena’s Café catered the event. Kevin O’Connell won the 50/50 and generously donated the money back to the guild.

Marian Tea:  Carol Rosney assisting Ann asked for volunteers to sell tickets at all the masses for the weekend of 4/3 & 5/1, 2016 and 5/7 & 58, 2016. The tea will be held on May 14, 2016 at noon.

Boston Bus Trip:  Ann Shields reported that they have 47 people signed up to go on the trip. Marie stated that would sell 50/50 raffle tickets on the bus.

Old Business:  Teresa Murphy reported that there was no interest in buying shirts.

50/50 Winner:  Pat Allen for $35.50

Springs Nursing Home:  Collected $19.00

New Business:  Barbara Campbell suggested that everyone think about possible openings for new officers.  The annual Women’s Guild June Dinner will be held on June 6, 2016 Cocktails at 6pm with dinner to follow. There is a sign-up sheet in the gathering area. The cost is $25.00.

Refreshments for the May Meeting:  Barbara Campbell and Jeanne Aurelia volunteered.
